I love Christmas Eve! I think it is such a special time to be together with your family and friends!
Having lived on both sides of the Equator I can say that both warm and cold evenings have their advantages! There is of course something charming and snuggly about a cold winters Christmas Eve, a fireplace and some Gluhwein. There is however a lot to be said for a summer night, under twinkling lights, next to the swimming pool, waiting for your dinner to cook to perfection on the ‘braai’ – barbecue.
However you take your Christmas Eve, I hope it is a special one filled with smiles, love and new traditions! Here are some of my favourite ideas to get you started!
Make a Christmas Night Box, there are so many good ideas out there, this is a simple, yet perfect one…
This box contains Pj’s, Christmas Eve Stories, Santa’s Key and Reindeer food.
If you would prefer a Bucket to a Box, then a Surprise Santa Bucket is also fun fun fun! You could honesty add anything you like to this, anything you and your family wants for Christmas Eve!
All go to bed in matching PJ’s! At first I though this idea was a little silly – however after some thought I did actually think it would be great to have matching PJ’s for all those Christmas morning photos – you know the bad hair shots with presents on your lap…
If you prefer – have a Christmas pants party!
If you sew, this is an easy step by step tutorial for PJ Pants!
I love this next idea, it really adds to the “magic” of Christmas!…
Plant Magic Elf Seeds… (or tic tac’s)
and grow Christmas cookies!
If you prefer, Plant Candy Cane Seeds (Candy Striped Mints) and grow Candy Canes!
In fact – they could grow into anything you wanted!
We grew lollipops and candy canes last year!!
Start a Christmas scavenger hunt on Christmas Eve – it can end in the evening or follow through to Christmas Day. This link contains some great clue ideas to get you started…
…or play some reindeer games
If you prefer a snowman approach, then jump into your matching PJ’s and play ‘pin the nose on the snowman! You could easily make this door at home!
A German tree trimming tradition! I love this one, going to add this to our Christmas Eve family traditions.
Santa (or St Nicholas) ‘hides’ the pickle, and the one who finds it on Christmas morning gets a little something extra!
Select your favourite Christmas Movie, gather round, turn down the lights and snuggle up for Christmas Eve Movie Night!
Christmas Eve Movie Night would not be complete without the following things:
Very Cute Reindeer Hot Coco
Served in Mini – or Maxi if you prefer – Hot Coco ready Christmas Glasses!
mmmmmm Christmas Movie Night Snowman Pizza – add any topping you like!!
If you would prefer to keep busy, then make stuff!
This is a great way to keep yourself and the Children busy while you wait patiently for Santa to arrive!
1. Make Pom Poms with a fork!
2. Make a Ginger Bread House!
3. Make some healthy snacks for Christmas Day, try these Santa Cheese’s…
4. For grown ups make some Gluhwein – Spiced Wine!
Last, but most important… don’t forget… before you go to bed to make some Reindeer Food and sprinkle it on the lawn…
… and leave out some Milk and Cookies for Santa!
Soak in the bath with our easy to make Peppermint Sugar Scrub – and then you are all ready for Christmas Day!!
