Paper Crafts Anyone?
This Hawaiian Lei is a perfect craft for toddlers and children learning to cut and thread. It is easy to make and beautiful to wear!
Should you be having a Hawaiian birthday party theme – this one goes down a treat!
We made our own flowers. I am going to show you how to do that in a sec, however making flowers for many Lei making children (as in a birthday party full) may just be a little too time consuming, so I have also included some links to flower punches – and better yet, ready made flowers – buy them by the bag full!
Let get started!
We made our flowers and cut some straws. The straws were cut into 2 – 3cm (1 inch) bits.
The flowers were made as follows:
I took an A4 paper and cut it into 3 strips, and then I cut those strips into squares.
Now, fold the square in half, and then in half again.
Look for the corner that is closed. This is the centre of the flower, so you need to make a hole to use for threading. Cut the tiniest bit off the corner.
Then on the opposite side to the little cut shape your flower. Experiment here a little – you can make petals or cut one arch over the top (that makes a nice poppy shaped flower.)
Flowers all made and ready! We used pink and red, but it goes without saying that you can use any / many colors – as you wish!
All flowers done, straws cut!
Thread all your straws and flowers onto a piece of string. Alternate a flower and a piece of straw.
When you think your Lei is long enough (a Lei should reach your belly button) tie it off and there you go!
A beautiful paper craft project that could not be more easy!
Having a Hawaiian Party? Need MANY flowers?
Here are some (affiliate) links to Amazon where I have selected some flower punches or ready made paper flowers for you to consider.
I really hope you enjoy making these as much as we did!
