Home made Salt Dough Christmas decorations are special!
It makes for great Christmas activities with the children and they make fantastic gifts!!

Salt dough is awesome! It is cheap, you always have the ingredients at home, it’s easy to work with and it dries hard and solid like clay!
Once the dough was made, we rolled it out – about 5mm thick and cut out our shapes with every Christmas cookie cutter we could find!

Once dry I primed them with a spray paint all purpose – surface – primer and then we painted them with Acrylic paint.
Once the paint was dry I sprayed them with a clear gloss varnish.

How to make the Salt Dough…
- ½ cup plain flour
- ½ cup salt
- ¼ cup water
- Mix these ingredients together until dough forms. The dough should feel like bread dough, not to sticky, and not crumbly dry.
Salt dough dries on it’s own in a few days (3 or so) but if you are impatient – like us – you can bake them in the oven for about 3 hours at 100ºC.

You can make little holes into the top of the decoration to add a hanging string.
Make sure you do this before you dry them!

These really did turn out wonderful!
