This recycled windmill craft is such a wonderful idea, especially since the sails of the windmill actually turn! A little bit of art combined with a little engineering!
We really love making crafts with recycled materials and egg cartons are one of our favorites!
We made these egg carton rockets using the pointy bits inside the egg carton and these egg carton turtles – the cutest thing ever!

Windmill recycled craft materials:
- Egg Cartons
- Paper Cups
- Toothpicks or wooden skewers
- Paint. We used paint like this…
To make it extra easy I have made an instruction video. A few tips before we get started…
We used paper cups that were painted the day before.
For the sails of the windmills we used egg cartons. We cut out the cardboard on the top of the box for the pink sails and then for the blue sails we used the side of the box.
Between the paper cup and the sail, you need a little space so that the windmill sail does not scrape against the cup. We made a pointy bit from the top of the pointy bits inside the egg carton.
I used metal skewers to make the holes before I put in the wooden skewer – egg cartons are strong and I did not want to break the wooden skewers.
The doors and windows are made from bits and pieces of the egg box. Feel free to decorate your windmill as you wish!

Hope you enjoy our little windmills!
