This is a great little activity for children of any age to do!
We made beads like a production line – what seemed like millions of the little things!
When we were finished and the beads were dry, we turned ours into jewelry.
First you make the salt dough – here is our recipe…
Then you make your beads and bake them in the oven. (you can let them air dry – but it will take about 3 days – and if you are like us….. you want them dry NOW!)
Make sure that once you have shaped your beads – any shape you like – you poke a hole in the middle before you dry them as the salt dough gets too hard to easily make holes!
Once they were dry we painted them! These beads in the picture below have not been painted yet – instead I colored the salt dough with food coloring before we made them. This works really well if you are looking for a little color – but we wanted more, so we gave them an extra paint… and built this contraption to let the paint dry… (it’s made with skewers and a box)
Once dry we threaded them onto a string and made a little necklace and bracelet!
And we made a long necklace for Mom!
