Supplies needed to make these happy little salt dough Christmas Trees.
- Salt dough or air dry clay. We use this salt dough recipe! It is the best by far. This link will show you how to make, dry and keep your salt dough creations forever!
- If you wish to use air-dry clay, we use this one. It is great to work with and dries literally overnight!
- Buttons, if you don’t have a button stash you can buy bags of them off the shelf!
- String or twine. We used bakers twine like this..

How to make these cute little button trees:
First you need to make your salt dough. See link here for instructions…
Once the salt dough is made, roll it out about 1/3 inch or 1cm thick.
When the salt dough is still wet, push the buttons into the tree. Make sure you push them a fair way down!
Leave your trees to air dry. Ours took about 3 days to be completely dry. You can’t dry these in the oven as the buttons would melt!
Once the tree is dry, make sure your buttons are secure. Glue down those buttons that have come loose or cover the tree fully with Mod Podge. That will both seal the tree and stick down the buttons!
Add your string or twine and you are all set!
