You know when you start off making something and you think, “hey, good idea…” and then when you look at the final result they look nothing like you first thought they would – they look EVEN BETTER!…
Well, this was one of those, WOW, we did not expect them to turn out like this ideas!!!
These make such wonderful decorations – and gifts!! We have painted them Christmas colors – but they would go any color, and season!!
And the best part?…
They are so easy to make, even a preschooler can do this!
What do you need to make these awesome tea light holders?
- Salt Dough – get our fail proof recipe here…
- Tea Light Candles / or Battery Operated LED Tealight Candles
…
- Acrylic Paint
/ Good Quality Paint
- Glitter Acrylic Craft Paint
– optional – we added it at the end for shine!
How? Easy!!
Roll your salt dough into balls – just bigger than a golf ball!
Then take a tea light – and put it on the top of the ball – centered!!
Push Down – until it is nicely surrounded
Remove the tea light and wait for the salt dough to dry – or dry it in the oven (8o°C / 180°F for about 3 hours)
Then when the dough is completely dry, you can start painting!
We used acrylic paints as they seal the salt dough and give the holder a shine!
We also used a little acrylic paint glitter at the end – just to add a little sparkle – but this is obviously completely optional!
When I added in the tea light candles into the holders I took them out the metal casings – as it looks pretty like that.
NB: Be careful with salt dough and open flames – I can not guarantee that it is completely fireproof!
Pretty Tea Lights Hey!
We really enjoyed making these – really something we will do a few times a year – according to the season!
So easy – even a toddler can do it!!
